Child Care Month / Child Care Provider Appreciation Day

Proclamation

WHEREAS child care is a vital community service that supports healthy families and a healthy economy, and
 
WHEREAS quality early learning and child care programs contribute to learning readiness and healthy child development, and
 
WHEREAS child care providers are essential to providing quality, safe child care, and
 
WHEREAS child care providers, parents, federal, provincial and municipal governments, business, community associations and citizens share a commitment to ensuring that quality child care spaces are available for families, and
 
WHEREAS the government of British Columbia is committed to providing safe, affordable and quality child care options to ensure programs and services are available to support and protect our most vulnerable children and families,
 
WHEREAS many individuals, organizations and municipalities throughout British Columbia have, since 1982, organized events in celebration of Child Care Month and Child Care Provider Appreciation Day, and
 
WHEREAS Our Lieutenant Governor, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, has been pleased to enact Order in Council 903 on
October 11, 2002, and
 
NOW KNOW YE THAT We do by these presents proclaim and declare that the month of May 2008 shall be known as
 
“Child Care Month”
 
and May 29, 2008, shall be known as
 
“Child Care Provider Appreciation Day”
 
in British Columbia.
